The Cube is a Microplex Cinema and venue in Central Bristol. UK.
The ethos since conception has been to provide alternative film exhibitions for the community of Bristol, to make cinema a creative socailising space.
Cube grew from cinema entertainment collective club rhombus. Hogge, Julian, Jack and Kevin took over The disused building that was the arts center cinema in October 1998 and since then has been producing a radically programmed venue hosting event cinema, live music, exhibition entertainments. We very much align ourselves to other Microcinemas such as Brighton Cinemateque, Tynsides cineside, Horse Hospital and other around the world such as The Other Cinema in San Fransisco.
An independent organisation that has its roots in independent music, art film. It also is community orientated being open to participation, collaboration and help with The workload.
It has Built a national and international reputation for it's indeginous programmes as well as having contributed to The Big Chill's Media Mix tent in 2000 and 2001. Recently The Cube has joined forces with Stten Aggregates to form the Blackout Crew, which hosted a tented at The Ashton Court Festival in 2002.
It is run solely by a mixture of full time volunteers and a huge team of dedicated helpers.
We receive almost no funding bar dribs and drabs, some loans, some give-aways and much in kind.
